Edmond Tapsoba is a promising young Burkina Faso international centre back who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, having joined the German club in January 2020 after developing as a top talent during his time in Portugal.
The 21-year-old central defender was born in the capital city Ouagadougou and began playing in his native Burkina Faso first with Salistas then US Ouagadougou before moving to Europe in 2017 and playing initially for Portuguese side Leixoes. Despite his young age, Tapsoba has already earned eight senior caps for his country.
The towering defender moved to Portuguese top flight side Vitoria Guimaraes in 2018 and spent time developing with the club’s B team, where he made 30 league appearances and scored seven goals, before moving into the first team for the 2019/20 season and scoring four times in just 16 league appearances, catching the eye of major clubs around Europe and earning his move to Germany.
On deadline day in January 2020, Bayer Leverkusen agreed a reported €18m deal, with a further €7m in future objectives, for Tapsoba who signed a five and a half year contract with the club, having already gone on to make 10 Bundesliga appearances with the club.
