Player Spotlight: Sergio Gomez

Sergio Gomez is a talented Spanish youth international and attacking midfielder who currently plays for Huesca in the Spanish second divison, on a season-long loan from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

The Badalona-born 19-year-old attacking midfielder, full name Sergio Gomez Martin, began playing in the youth ranks of local sides Trajana and Badalona then spent a brief stint in the academy at Espanyol before joining the famed La Masia academy of Barcelona in 2010 where he spent a number of years among the development ranks. Towards the end of his time at the Catalan giants, Gomez made two league appearances for the Barcelona B side during the 2017/18 Spanish second division season.

In January 2018, Gomez signed for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, joining a growing number of top European talents currently on the German club’s books. Initially playing for the club’s under-19s side, Gomez also made 11 appearances and scored twice for the Borussia Dortmund II reserve team as well as making his senior debut for the club in April 2018 against Stuttgart, the first of two league appearances to date.

Gomez returned to Spain’s Segunda Division for the 2019/20 season after being loaned to Huesca, having scored once in 28 league games.
