Owen Wijndal is a promising young Dutch full back who currently plays for Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar, having come through the academy setup at the Dutch top flight club since joining at the age of 10 back in 2010.
The 20-year-old left back, who is a regular youth international for the Netherlands, particularly at under-17 and under-19 levels, began playing youth football for local sides ZVV Zaandijk and HFC Haarlem before he joined the AZ academy in 2010.
Wijndal then spent eight years progressing through the development ranks at the Alkmaar club, breaking into the Jong AZ reserve side in 2016 and going on to make 59 league appearances for the second string team, scoring twice and helping the club earn promotion from the third tier.
He made his professional debut for AZ in February 2017, starting in a 4-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie due to injuries to the club’s regular starters. To date, Wijndal has gone on to make 40 league appearances for the club since and scored one goal.
Born to a Dutch father and Surinamese mother, Wijndal is eligible to represent either nation at international level.
